Grumpy Cub Hangar

From tubing to takeoff — building my Experimental Super Cub largely from scratch.
The Grumpy Cub is my long-term goal of building an Experimental Super Cub largely from scratch.
This page documents the journey — planning, research, fabrication, parts, tools, lessons learned, and eventually the transformation from raw materials into a flying airplane.
The goal is simple: build a capable, traditional-style backcountry airplane while learning as much as possible along the way.
I maintain a detailed builder's log documenting the construction of the Grumpy Cub, including photos, work performed, build time, materials, tooling costs, and lessons learned.
Build Gallery Photos documenting the Grumpy Cub as it progresses from raw materials to a finished airplane.

Build Approach
Building an airplane largely from scratch means making a lot of decisions before the first pieces ever come together. For the fuselage structure, I chose to work with VR3 Engineering for precision-cut and coped tubing, providing a solid starting point while still allowing me to fabricate and assemble the airplane myself.
VR3 Engineering offers custom tube processing and fabrication services for experimental aircraft projects. Visit VR3 Engineering for more information.
